Play will be governed by the Rules of Golf except as modified by the Rocky Mountain Section PGA Rules of Play Card and the attached Supplemental Rules for Hilands Golf Club:
Formats: Scramble – First 18 Holes - On every hole, each player may hit a tee shot. The team then selects one of the tee shots from which to play. Both members of the team may hit from that position. This procedure is repeated until the ball is holed. Once a ball is holed no additional stroke(s) count.
Selected Shot – Each team member may place his ball within one club-length of the selected shot no nearer the hole. If the shot selected lies in a penalty area, bunker, rough, fairway, or fringe of the green, the ball must be played from within one (1) club-length of the shot selected, no nearer the hole, and must remain in the same condition (i.e. fairway, bunker, etc.).
Improving Lie of Ball (General Area/Penalty Area) – A team member may improve his lie by hand placing the ball or by moving it with the clubhead. The ball is in play when the player addresses it or, if he does not address it, when he makes his next stroke.
Improving Lie of Ball (Bunker) – A team member may improve his lie by hand placing the ball only. The ball is in play when the player addresses it. In a bunker, the sand may be raked prior to any ball being placed. Any team member may rake the bunker.
Improving Lie of Ball (Putting Green) – When putting, the ball must be placed within one putterhead length from the mark, no closer to the hole.
Standing on an Extension of the Line of Play – Team members may stand behind one another (on an extension of the line of play) during the playing of a stroke.
Scoring – The marker is required to record for each hole only the score of the Scramble Team.
Four-Ball Stroke Play – Second 18 Holes - Two competitors play as partners, each playing his/her own ball. The lower score of the partners is the score for the hole.
Scoring – The marker is required to record for each hole only the gross score of whichever partner’s score is to count. The gross score to count must be individually identifiable; otherwise, the side shall be disqualified (Rule 23.2b).
Modified Alternate Strokes (Chapman) – Third 18 Holes - Both players play from the teeing ground. Each player then plays his partner’s drive for the second shot. The team selects the ball they wish to play, and they shall play alternately until the ball is holed. Penalty strokes do not affect the order of play. A penalty in this form of play will be incurred only if related to the ball ultimately holed out by the side. In the event both competitors tee shots come to rest out of bounds, the team shall add a stroke and distance penalty to their team score, however, both members may play again from the teeing area. If the partners play a stroke or strokes in the incorrect order, such strokes shall be canceled and the side shall incur a penalty of two strokes. The side shall correct the error by playing a ball in correct order at the spot from which it was played in incorrect order. If the side plays a stroke from the next teeing area without first correcting the error or, in the case of the last hole of the round, verifies their scorecard without declaring its intention to correct the error, the side shall be disqualified.
Scoring – The marker is required to record for each hole only the score of the team.
Tie Breaking Procedure: Any tie for overall first place will be determined by a sudden death individual playoff starting on hole #1 and continuing to #2, #3, etc. until a winner is determined. Format will be Individual Medal (Stroke) Play. In the event a sudden death format would be impracticable because of weather or darkness, first place will be determined by using the final round low score for the last 9 holes, then if still tied the last 6, then if still tied the last 3 holes, then if still tied, the last hole until a winning individual is identified. All other ties will remain unbroken and will share in the appropriate payout.
